About Us

Founded

VetSCO was founded in 2013 by a group of passionate students who wanted to make a difference in our local communities.

Who is involved

All members are students at Onderstepoort who volunteer to help improve the health of animals in our local community. The group is run by a committee of veterinary students and sponsored by various other parties, as seen on our 'Special Thanks' page.

Doctors involved

We have many wonderful, qualified doctors who volunteer their time and expertise to help supervise our visits and perform advanced procedures such as de-sexing and the handling of difficult or aggressive animals. Click through to our 'Special Thanks' page to learn more about the doctors dedicated to helping us and our communities.

What we do

VetSCO hosts outreaches to local informal settlements and animal shelters. We set up a day clinic in the area and locals bring their animals for free clinical examinations and treatment.

Procedures: animal ID card production and recording, clinical examination, deworming, vaccination, anti-flea and tick procedures/dipping.

We also focus on educating the owners on proper care and handling of their animals.

Our education department works towards educating the children of the community about handling and interacting with animals (especially dogs) which includes bite prevention. Rabies identification, avoidance and what to do if you are bitten is one of the main focuses of our education programme.
